FAQ's: Horse Riding Lessons at In Your Dreams Farm

A: We offer a well-rounded lesson program for riders of all ages and disciplines. We specialize in many different disciplines with SAFTEY and HORSEMANSHIP being #1 at In Your Dreams Equestrian Center. Ride for pleasure or ride into the ribbons — whatever your desire may be. We teach novice riders to advance.

A: Group Lessons are approximately 1 hour in length. Private Lessons are 30 minutes of individual attention.

A: Yes, we start lessons at 6 years old. We ask that lesson clients are old enough to be able to focus on their lesson and work on the tasks as they learn to ride. For new riders and young riders, we do private lessons to let them have more one on one instruction.

A: Yes, we have helmets of varying brands and sizes available for students to use for the first few lessons. But buying an approved ASTM/SEI well fitted riding helmet will be a purchase that all of our students need to invest in sooner rather than later.

A: Learn more about pricing, including discounts for lesson packages, on our Riding Lesson Page. Lesson clients must prepay for their lessons. We encourage you to buy one of our lesson packages to receive a discount (a 5-lesson package receives a 5-percent discount and a 10-lesson package receives a 10-percent discount).You can pay via Paypal on our Lesson Payment page or pay with cash or check (payable to “IYD Farm”) at the barn. Your instructor will show you where to leave your payment if you choose to bring it to the barn.

A: We require 24 hours’ notice of cancellation except in the case of an emergency. If you belong to our membership we are even more flexible. We just need to know as soon as you know that your child has too much homework or isn’t feeling well. We know how busy kids are these days. If you accidently forget to do cancel correctly (or do not show): You will be invoiced 1/2 price of the lesson or if you are a member be docked ½ credit in your rider log book.

A: At IYD for fun we divide our riders into different horse breeds based on your riding skills. Whereas you grow in your riding abilities you can advance to the highest level of horse breed(s) you can learn more about our rider classifications here.(LINK)

A: No. For you to progress with your riding, you will ride different horses.  But, once you are ready and if you’re a member of our riding membership we offer an ‘Exclusivity Program’ that you can easily enroll in so that you can ride your favorite horse at the time. Its IYD version of leasing a horse but way more affordable!!

A: At a minimum please arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time of your lesson. All of our riders are welcomed to hang out all day and enjoy the ponies and horses

A: Proper riding attire is REQUIRED! This includes breeches/britches/jeans, proper riding boots. If you don’t have any boots please wear closed toed shoes and we will get you into riding boots when you arrive (please bring socks). You will be fitted with a helmet for your first few lessons but purchasing an approved ASTM/SEI riding helmet will a purchase all students need to invest in sooner rather than later.

Riders should come prepared with shirts tucked in. Gloves are optional but recommended. Riding apparel can be purchased through Dover or Atlanta Saddlery or quite a few other local and online retailers. Helmets, boots and half chaps are available to rent for free for your initial few lessons and then an IYD instructor will happily sit down with you and discuss your budget and goals in riding and what makes help you make the most sensible purchase(s).

A: All reservations are held by a Visa or Master Card, so please have your credit card handy when you call. Your lesson can only be held with a credit card, although you may pay for your lesson with cash, check, credit card or Paypal upon arrival.

A: Our instructors teach primarily ‘English’ style of riding with an emphasis in equitation, jumpers, and hunters. We also offer introductory lessons in Western Horsemanship and Reining. In all our lessons at IYD, we do touch on the subject of Dressage in every lesson and are very capable of taking our students in low-level dressage or combined training shows.

A: Yes, there are opportunities to show our program horses, including during our in-house shows. Ask your instructor to help you pick the best horse possible for you.

A: No, unless you want one we understand it’s a big commitment and maybe you cannot own a horse at this time. If that is the case please feel free to call one of ours yours. At IYD we just want to share the love!

A: No, We provide all tack, which all has been properly fitted for our horses but, we are not opposed to you bringing or buying your own saddle. We are well aware of how much a rider can progress in their riding when they are comfortable. If you do bring your own saddle our instructors likely will fit your horse with additional half pads, bevel pads, and or riser pads to make your saddle fit perfectly!

A: Lesson packages are nonrefundable but can be transferred to another service. Contact us for more information.

A: Yes. Our facility is not heated or insulated, so we suggest wearing layers you can shed as you work up a sweat in colder months. An instructor will inform you if lessons are canceled due to weather.

A: No. We will happily accommodate your schedule needs.

A: Sure, as long as they will be supportive and not distracting during your lesson. We ask that all guests abide by the Stable Rules. Children under age 9 must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. We ask that your guests sign a liability release/waiver.

A: We offer a very special string of school horses. Our horses can be used for your very first lesson or can be competitive at the “A” shows.  When selecting our school horses, we put a strong emphasis on safety.  It is important to us that our horses have the temperament and ability to suit the needs of all of our riders

A: Of course! We pride ourselves in this aspect because before you can ride a horse you need to know how to take care of them and handle them as well. Safety is #1 at In Your Dreams Farm we want everyone to be knowledgeable about all aspects of horses.

A: Private lessons are one-on-one with an instructor and are 30 minutes long. Group lessons are taught with multiple riders of similar ability level in the arena at the same time.

  • Safety: Our policies are in place to ensure the safety of both humans and horses. We ask that lesson clients help ensure their own safety and that of others by following these guidelines and reporting any safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Timeliness: Our instructors and horses are ready and waiting, so we appreciate lesson clients arriving on time for their lessons. If a lesson client arrives late, the lesson duration will be shortened to what was left of their original time slot.
  • Clear communication: Life happens, and sometimes lesson clients are unable to keep their regular schedule. We ask that you communicate with us 24 hours to cancel or as soon as you can, but if no call or text is received there will be a $25 charge or a ½ charge in the log-in book if you are one of our members. Call or text anytime if you have questions, concerns, or changes.

A: Sorry no we do not. But when your child is ready for lessons or camp please contact us.

A: No. we do not offer trail rides to the public, however, our students may enjoy our hacking paths under strict supervision with one of our accredited instructors during one’s regularly scheduled riding lesson, permitting that the weather is nice.

A: Children under age 9 must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. If another adult accompanies you, feel free to bring the kids as long as they won’t distract you during your lesson. Please do not bring your four-legged friends. All guests must abide by the Stable Rules

A: Yes. To ensure the safety of our horses. Some horses have a weight limit but there is no weight limit for groundwork lessons.

A: These unmounted lessons focus on working with the horse using a variety of techniques. They are a great opportunity for those who do not want to ride, are interested in training horses, or want to further their education out of the saddle. This is a great thing for every horse person; it teaches you how to handle your horse from the ground.
